How Prediction-Market Traders Find Pricing Splits Without Predicting the Winner

Nine short lessons on how cross-platform pricing gaps form, how the math works, and where the real risks live.

Lesson 1 of 9

Prediction Markets Explained

Prediction markets are exchanges where people trade contracts that pay $1 if a real-world event happens and $0 if it does not. The price acts as a live probability estimate shaped by thousands of participants.

Lesson 2 of 9

Why Pricing Differences Happen

Each platform is a separate marketplace with its own liquidity, traders, access rules and position limits. Capital can't instantly move between them, so the same event can be priced differently on each.

Lesson 3 of 9

Basic Arbitrage Mathematics

Buy YES on one platform and NO on the other. If the combined cost is below $1.00, one side must pay $1.00 — the difference is the gross spread, before fees, slippage and settlement risk.

Lesson 4 of 9

Real Example

Kalshi YES at $0.56 + Polymarket NO at $0.39 = $0.95 combined. Gross split: 5.26%. After modeled fees: roughly 4.1% net. Size is capped by whichever book is thinner.

Lesson 5 of 9

Liquidity

Quoted prices only apply to small sizes. Thin books mean you walk up the order book, paying worse prices. Maximum deployable capital is bounded by the thinner leg.

Lesson 6 of 9

Fees

Trading fees, withdrawal fees and crypto rails all subtract from the spread. A 2% gross opportunity on platforms charging 1% blended fees nets roughly 1%.

Lesson 7 of 9

Contract Matching

The two legs must resolve the same event the same way. Wording, resolution criteria, sources and cancellation policies differ across platforms — and mismatches are the biggest risk in this strategy.

Lesson 8 of 9

Execution Risk

You execute two legs sequentially. The first fills and the second's price moves, and your "arbitrage" becomes a directional position. Speed, limits and slippage all matter.

How MarketSplits Works

MarketSplits scans supported markets, matches equivalent contracts, and shows the full economics: combined cost, fees, net spread, liquidity caps, settlement dates and a 0–100 confidence score. You decide what to do using your own accounts.
